The Saturday Night Fever Conundrum

I’ve kinda shot myself in the foot here.  As I said in the previous post, I’m doing a pair of lectures on American music history and this week was 1900-1969.  Next week in 1970-modern and I am like a fish out of water.  Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not an expert on the first section of the class, but I like to think I’ve got a better concept of it than your average history monkey.  But now I’ve got to talk about styles that I don’t have much, if any, experience with.

The 1970s was disco, and it was by no means the only music of the decade, but that is probably the best place to start.  But after that I’m not sure where to go.  I know there was a flock of seagulls and some socks went missing, but that’s about it until about 2001.  So, I’m asking for help.  If you have suggestions about talking points, tell me.  If you have song and artist suggestions, tell me.  And if you think I’m gonna burn like a red head on mercury, be gentle.

I’m going to look into this and try for something, but I could really use some suggestions.
